Review for Ceres Community Project, Sebastopol, CA, USA
After surviving a horrific surgery I underwent 9 months of chemotherapy and even with strong support from friends and family, it was the Ceres program that made a huge difference in my daily life. The healthful, nurturing foods delivered with such grace by volunteers sustained me, and I believe hastened my recovery. And now, many years later, it has been my privilege to volunteer both as a Delivery Angel and guest speaker to the fantastic teen volunteers both in the kitchens and the garden. The Ceres program is successful in several equally important areas. Firstly of course they are of service to individuals and families during a time of great need, providing meals that nourish both the body and spirit. Then there are the teen volunteers who learn skills in the kitchen and garden while enjoying the companionship of their teens but perhaps even more importantly experience the value of service to people in need. The third level is the opportunity for adults in the community and previous clients like myself to volunteer and feel like we can give something of great value back to our community. And lastly is the educational component so vital for recovering clients as they move forward cooking their own delicious meals. Ceres is truly an amazing organization on so many levels. It is a great blessing to our community and a sound model for the rest of the country.
