My class of 1st grade students in Florida got to participate in the Distance Ed program that KECA offers to teachers completely free of charge. This is the third year I have utilized the program, and every year it gets better and better! Working with the KECA staff to have the box of materials shipped to my school and then returned to them was so simple and again... FREE! My students were so engaged in the Zoom presentation and the presenter did a fantastic job sharing the information, while also tailoring it to the developmental level of 1st graders. The buzz in my classroom was infectious the day we got to take all of the items out of the box and explore them hands on. They could not wait to show myself and their friends what they were looking at and couldn't get enough information on the elk population. KECA also includes learning materials specific to multiple grade levels/standards in the box for teachers to utilize. We had done some research on conservation, elk, and watched some videos the week prior, so the Zoom presentation and elk box exploration was the perfect culminating experience for my students! I'm so happy that I can bring the excitement and wonder of elk country to my students all the way in sunny Florida! Thank you for all that you do!
