Review for Fort Worth Hope Center, Fort Worth, TX, USA
In 2016 our world exploded. The company my husband worked for 25 years at, closed without any notice and the owners went on a 1 year world tour, leaving no way to contact then. No salary, bonus, retirement, or job. Since he was in his 60's he was considered unemployment. Then, He had Hepatitis B and considered terminal. I was diagnosed with 2 types of cancer in 2 months and heart arrhythmia fron the wrong blood pressure drug. Neither of us could work and somehow qualified for no assistance. We were advised at 62 to wait until 65 to get SS. By waiting, we got 1/2 of what we were told. We were barely surviving. In October 2019 I spent 22 days in the hospital with congestive heart failure. We finally qualified for help with rent. It was an all black community and we were the token white couple. They treated us terribly. We were terrified and hopeless. Then Covid hit. We are both immunocompromised. Might as well just give up and die.
Then we heard about HOPE Ft. Worth and met Rebecca. She was so kind and friendly and so was everyone else. They prayed with and for us. Gave us encouragement and food and a little dignity back. Going to HOPE was my big social outing for the week. Something to look forward to in a very difficult time. Just when we thought it couldn't get worse, my Daughter's husband threatened to kill her and she was forced to live with us. HOPE helped her too. Rebecca has gone the extra mile and even helped her find a place to live.
The food was vital to live and we are so very grateful. The HOPE, kindness, caring, encouragement, providing information about other services, and prayers have meant everything to us. We are happy again and want to live and get better again. All thanks to HOPE and all the volunteers, and especially REBECCA. Thank you!
