Review for Operation Tiny Home, Oakland, OR, USA

Rating: 5 stars

My husband and I had become very interested in the Tiny House movement and downsizing with the intention of simplifying our life, becoming debt free and having less of an impact on our environment in late 2019. We lived in a 4-bedroom house in Vermont with our 10-month old son at the time. The house we lived in has always felt too big for us and maintaining it was expensive. We have had some winters when our gas bill has been over $300/month due to heating. For only 2 people (at the time) that felt extremely wasteful. Since the birth of our son, my husband and I have taken a very deliberate evaluation of our lives and what is important to us. My husband was laid off from his job due to COVID and has been a stay at home Dad since March 2020. We have realized what a blessing that actually is despite us no longer being able to afford our home because it allowed our son to never have to go to daycare as originally planned. We realized our time together as a family is far more important than maintaining an oversized home. We want to show our son that joy does not come from a big house or material possessions and we want to give him a more experiential life. Our house was sold and we began working with a tiny home builder to make our dream a reality. With the rise in prices for building materials and costs to prep the land skyrocketing out of control, we were quickly watching our dream become a nightmare. We were facing not being able to afford the house that was already started being built until Operation Tiny Home came into our lives. They gave us the help we needed at just the right time and we now live in our beautiful home and could not be happier! The entire organization is full of wonderful, caring people who were such a pleasure to get to know. My family could not thank them enough for the peace of mind of being able to live in a safe and reliable home that certainly will not cost us $300/month in heating this winter!
