Let’s make one thing clear that keeps getting lost. What the Board did is perfectly legal. The Board is the organisation and owns the name Daponte String Quartet . The musicians were employed by the Board. They are now free to go create a group under a new name.

When the group created the non-profit and handed all responsibility for running the organisation over to the Board they created the conditions that resulted in this happening. They can hire a lawyer but they haven’t a violin’s string’s chance in Hell of winning in Court as they were employees at will.
