I started my volunteering journey with IMALIVE in 2021, being very unsure of my ability to make a change in people’s lives. IMALIVE has made me a better listener, more patient, working with such diversity with a sense of belonging. I know that with every shift, I helped create a safe space to those who need it.

I started my journey with IMAlive shortly after immigrating to Canada from South Africa, I found the support and encouragement from supervisors to be like that of a new found family. Every shift is different and I still learn every time I sign on to do a shift. I have learnt so much about myself while volunteering with IMAlive, how to not only help those in need but also how to better cope with and respond to crises in life.
