Review for Paws For Seniors, Toms Brook, VA, USA
It has been a week and a few days since Buddy came to live with us. I'm happy to say he's come out of hiding and has laid claim to a dog crate I have at the end of my workbench in the garage. He watches and listens as I figure out the puzzles that are damaged wooden clocks. I used to talk to myself, now I talk to him. He's eating well and is fastidious with his litter box. The crew of which he is now the big brother is coming around. Laurel and Hardy (my ginger tabby litter mates) are still curious and watch him from the comfort of storage shelves across from the workbench. Fatty Pants is still a bit aloof, but she no longer hisses at him. She now hisses as she leaves the garage to go back into the house, which has always been her way of showing displeasure with me. It’s okay, I'm a big girl, and I can take it.
Rigsby, the 2-year-old Westie, wants to play with Buddy and true to his nature my little old man is tolerant. Riggs sits on the floor at the end of the bench looking longingly up at Buddy who is happy to remain out of reach. Riggs senses Buddy is male and since she has been schooled by Hardy to "respect the cat" her most overt actions have been to yelp at Buddy to encourage him to come down and play. Buddy is resolute in his refusal to engage and so, he sits and tolerates. As yet, Buddy has made no overtures towards me, but I sense his stress level is decreasing, and he no longer dashes into hiding. Two weeks may not be enough time for him to warm up to the idea of me. That's perfectly fine. It took Fatty Pants nearly 6-weeks to come around and now she makes a habit of sleeping with me.
I'm sorry I don't have pictures to share. If I stop at his end of the workbench, it makes him anxious so, rather than invade his space to take his picture I respect his space and he stays put. There are times when he tolerates attention from me especially if it involves chin rubs or a treat, but I'm not pushing it. I know it's just been a week and a few days; but I have fallen head over heels for this sweet little man. Thank you both so much for the love and care you provided this precious boy. He doesn't know it, but he's already enriched my life by just being in it.
Blessings to you both,
CJ aka Cynthia
