My friend has hosted students for several years. I’ve said that I will someday; when I have more space, when the kids are older, etc. Someday happened this year when a student needed to be placed in another home. I’m a single mom, and when I heard his story I immediately talked to my kids and we opened our home up. This student has become part of our family and I don’t know what we did before he arrived. He has especially connected with my 11yr old son and I know when the school year is over the goodbyes will be hard. My Share! coordinator had continuously been by my side through the process; checking in, answering questions, even taking my student to her home for a much needed weekend away. Share! even helped us navigate through some high school course selection changes and extracurriculars. At no time have I felt alone being a host parent. I think what I appreciate most is how Share! sets up a monthly adventure for students and their families; it allows us to explore our area and connect with others on this same journey. This has been an amazing experience and I will be doing it again in the future.
