Review for San Francisco Women's Centers, San Francisco, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

the Women's Building is a powerful resource for everyone in the Bay Area! They provide office space for social change and support organizations (like SFWAR and The Riley Center), they offer legal, exercise and wellness and other workshops that are free or very low cost, and provide centralized meeting spaces that are affordable. I am grateful every time I get to go to the Women's Building, and not just because of the gorgeous murals that adorn the walls, both outside and in -- but also because every time I walk through the front doors I know I'm part of a network of support, change, and care for the community. The Women's Building is a vital resource for all people in the Bay Area - women, children, men and those who prefer other gender possibilities.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

a sense of pride and gratitude anytime I even see the building -- somehow, the murals feel like they are a necessary part of my San Francisco! I've witnessed the powerful engagement of multiple communities when I attend events at the Women's Building -- maybe there's a literary event or reading on one floor, a local Latina/o community organizing event on another, a crisis volunteer training going on: there's a sense that we all belong here, all of our work matters and is necessary to one another!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a way to provide them with more funds, so that they can continue to make improvements around the building, offer more workshops and classes, and continue their vital work!

Role:  General Member of the Public & I worked with SFWAR to provide a writing workshop with trauma survivors, and got to help organize AAR 2008!.
