Review for Gig Harbor Peninsula Historical Society, Gig Harbor, WA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Since the Harbor History Museum opened, I have had several opportunities as a Charter Member to visit, participate in the various programs and tour the galleries. The permanent gallery is well designed and informative. The first two temporary exhibits have been excellent. Being able to host Smithsonian traveling exhibits is such a bonus for our area and the current Wilkes Exhibit created in-house is well done and a credit to the hardworking museum staff and volunteers.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

their hands-on exhibits. These make history come alive for the children visiting the museum and they are enthusiastic learners. I think having "no touching" exhibits broken up with the "please touch" activities keeps their interest at a high level and encourages self-control when needed. I've seen this work! Have you ever heard children asking how soon they can come back to a museum?? The 1900-era one-room schoolhouse programs taught by the schoolmarm are in high demand, accurate and outstanding!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

This organization is a well-managed one. They keep costs very affordable for the community while offering superb exhibits. By consistently exploring other ways to expand their visibility and generate revenue, the museum promises to remain a vital, accessible part of our area for many years to come.

Role:  Donor & I have donated to the museum and attended many programs.
