Review for Immigration Equality, New York, NY, USA
Immigration Equality's work for the 36,000+ binational LGBT couples who are needlessly torn apart by unfair immigration laws is invaluable. It's in no small part to their tireless efforts that the UAFA bill by Jerrold Nadler and Patrick Leahy received its first ever hearing in the Senate a few weeks ago. They also managed to secure coverage of our plight by People Magazine and an excellent editorial by the Washington Post earlier this year. Their website and blog give binational couples a great opportunity to liaise with each other and coordinate group efforts from our end to get this legislation passed.
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
the Washington Post, People Magazine, various other news sites and followed the Senate hearing on the UAFA bill on youtube, C-SPAN.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
interacting with staff and fellow binational couples on IE's blog and forums.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
very passionate about their work and extremely helpful.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
buy nationwide coverage in major newspapers and TV stations on UAFA.
Ways to make it better...
they had a space on their website where they would collate all the information that bloggers and contributors have found and posted in talkbacks (i.e. Congressmen contacts etc)
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
to keep this issue at the forefront of the news and to ensure that immigration equality is not misrepresented as illegal immigration and/or part of marriage equality discussions.
One thing I'd also say is that...
they are also on Facebook (they should be on twitter too, making most of the online media available).
