I began volunteering with ROSES several years ago to help with the weekly classes for students and seniors. It is always so heartwarming to witness the interaction between horse and student. By the end of each session, someone who may have been shy and scared of the horses at first, is grooming and connecting with their new furry friend. Not only physically, but spiritually as well. The students and seniors we meet in the beginning are not the same individuals at the end of each session. Everyone leaves with a feeling of confidence, pride, comfort and eagerness to return each week.
A couple of years ago, right after my father passed away, I called ROSES and asked if it would be alright for me to stop by and have some personal time with the horses. I knew they would provide me with the comfort and healing I desperately needed. From that time on, I go twice a week to groom and help around the barn. When I am with the horses, I feel completely at peace. All of my worries are gone and I know that, things will be alright. The bond and connection I share with the horses, is unlike anything else. I find myself not wanting to leave the barn because of the deep understanding and comfort we give one another.
