Review for Henry County Humane Society Kewanee Chapter - Kewanee Animal Shelter, Kewanee, IL, USA
Soon after retiring, my husband Michael and I moved to Kewanee and learned of the HCHS, and volunteered to assist them with bagging groceries for a fund raiser. We toured the shelter and agreed to volunteer additional time, first Michael and then I got involved assisting cleaning and caring for the animals awaiting adoption until our physical health became such that we could no longer continue that aspect of volunteering. When COVID came about, a small group of animal lovers from our church began sewing face masks and donated somewhere around 500 to the shelter to use as a fund raiser. We look forward to bagging groceries again during the upcoming holidays. Michael has also transported animals as needed from the shelter in Lacon (IL), as well as "Vet Runs" from the Kewanee shelter to the Vet in Kewanee for their "Spa Days" (SPAy and neutering). The HCHS may be small compared to others, but the love and caring that goes to animals in need is equal to that of any major metropolitan area. Now, with the addition of operating the local Pound for the city, the workload has increased, but the love and quality of caring has not diminished. We are both proud to be associated with the HCHS and look forward to continuing to volunteer our time and talents as we are able.
