Review for Turning Point Center, Houston, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I was a "fallen professional" who utilized the services of this center. I lost my certification to prastice as chemical dependency counselor and became homeless. (1) The Director of Client Services (George Gomez) gave me the opportunity to "reestablish" myself in the Social Services industry and return to college. (2) I remained at TPC as a resident manager and returned (after successful discharge) to conduct a Substance Abuse Education group. (3) I filed for and received Social Security Disability. (4) In my return to college at HCCS I have maintained a 4.00 gpa. (5) I moved to a Single Room Occupacy SRO (after discharge from TPC) and am currently residing in my own apartment, drug free for three (3) years.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I had no other place to go. I had burned all bridges due to my obsession with illicit substance abuse. I attended all meetings (on and off property), volunteered for office: administrative and security duties when asked to do so. I became spiritually connected with the concept of a Higher Power, that I call God and was able to make amends to those persons that I hurt during my active addiction.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Provide the agency with funding that would evoke it's residents the incentive to pursue job training: GED, computer shills, and mentor's that encourage well being.

Role:  Client Served & I provided experiential bonding with seniors like myself who were also homeless as a direct result of substance abuse.
