My daughter encouraged me to apply for a trip on the Salmon River in 2019, and I was lucky enough to be selected! It was life changing experience; I had no idea how much I had tucked away regarding my previous cancer experience. I was welcomed by all, and had the best time.

My daughter signed me up for the trip lottery about 5 years ago, and we signed up every year after that; in the meantime, I learned to Stand-Up Paddle Board with River Discovery, under the watchful eye of some volunteers! It has been so amazing to stay connected with people who understand what you've been through, and to have someone to call when things flare up again.
I was a part of the 2019 6-day Salmon River trip. It changed me in so many wonderful ways! Having the opportunity to set up our tents every night, be catered to for every delicious and nutritious meal (I still don't cook that good at home!), and to hear and share our survival stories and help each other with our trials is something you can't put a price tag on.
In 2021, I was able to be a part of the co-survivor retreat and share with my husband what it feels like to run the rapids! For both of us, it was very healing. He was my support for my breast cancer in 2020, but had not been with me for my first cancer at age 24. He had heard my anguish and horror stories, and was able to share and gain insight from other partners about how hard it is, and that we shouldn't do this alone! I was also able to do a half day trip with all 3 of my daughters, and we now as a family have this great memory of Mom being a River Rat forever and always!
