I am the director of a local food pantry and this Project has helped our clients enormously over the years. While it can be a financial hardship for pantry clients to have pets, I think it is critical that our senior citizens, families with children, etc. have the companionship and support that comes from a pet. It can be the difference between someone being truly isolated or having a loving pet companion. The Animal Support Project has helped provide pet food for our clients, parasite protection, etc. as well as helped people keep their pets when times are tough due to illness, etc. Even though people may be food insecure or have other financial problems, this compassionate animal project allows them to offer a loving home to so many of the pets that might otherwise be stuck in a shelter, etc. I believe that this project definitely raises the quality of life for our clients, and enables them to have the benefits of pet ownership that low income people in other communities may not have.
