Review for Louisiana Wildlife Federation, Baton Rouge, LA, USA
My organization, Friends of Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge, is a longtime affiliate of LWF, and I'm a lifelong member. I've always been proud of the work LWF does within the state, advocating for the wildlife, plants, and natural habitat, as well as for those people who enjoy and conserve these important resources. Further, for several years I've observed LWF as it's worked with NWF to conserve and build back our coastline.
Among the educational programs supported by LWF is the Conservation Leadership Corps, an opportunity for students to learn how to be conservation leaders. One of the Friends' newest board members is a college student who recently completed that program, so I have some idea of how effective it is.
Another program that's had a huge effect is the annual awards event. The Friends of Black Bayou is still proud of its Governor's Award, and several of our members still treasure their individual awards as educators and volunteers. These awards mean a lot to people who care about the wildlife of our state.
Finally, as a former representative to LWF, I learned a lot about state issues, especially those that involved LDWF or the Legislature. I am glad there's an organization that specifically observes and positively affects those statewide issues.
I appreciate the work done by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation.
