Review for Assistance League of Charlotte, CHARLOTTE, NC, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Having been involved with Assistance League of Charlotte for over 29 years it is a privilege to share many years of memories of how it searches for community needs and adapts its programs to support and help fill many needs. Its first program Operation Check Hunger fed low income school children with two snacks given to them as they went home daily on their school bus. Now it reaches out with mobile food pantries, in school food pantries and backpacks for weekends, a Heart of the Home project, snacks for the Metro School and protein needed at local foodbanks. For over twenty years it has partnered with the American Red Cross to provide bookbags for fire, flood and other disaster victims. Now Assistance League also provides bookbags to schools. It partners with many other 501(c)3 organizations in town to give them items donated to Assistance League which cannot be used in its programs or Thrift Shop. Another growing program is the Scholarship Fund which started for seniors in Charlotte Mecklenburg and has expanded to help previous senior recipients, offers scholarships to parents hoping to expand their skills, as well as help with music talent and equipment, culinary classes to earn job skills and YMCA summer camps. Operation School Bells grows each year to clothe more children and promote self esteem. Be sure to check out Mecklenburg County Teen Court, maybe you know a teen who would like to volunteer. Possibly you are looking for a group with which to volunteer - women and men welcome. Check out the website at assistanceleague.org/charlotte Assistance League is a treasure of friendships and service. Thank you for reading this and hope it has peaked your interest.
