My Nonprofit Reviews

I am not a very open person (just ask my wife) and do not typically share my personal feelings in open venues like this. However, I have experienced first hand the value of SMGA and what it means to those who have served their country in times of need and I feel a duty to share the importance of this nonprofit with you.

I joined SMGA in 2019 after talking with a friend and fellow service member who headed the local chapter. It was determined I was eligible for a new set of golf clubs through the program. I had considered buying a new set until I saw the prices. The last set of new clubs I owned were the clubs my father bought me as a teenager. Since my father passed in 2005 while I was in Iraq, I had been using his clubs for the last 14 years.

I truly enjoy playing with other service members who has shared some of the same experiences I have through my deployments and decades of service in the military. There is an instant camaraderie and comfortableness that does not come easy for us when around unfamiliar people. The game of golf is an activity we can all enjoy that takes our minds of the things we have experienced and will never forget, even if only for a few hours.

I have always enjoyed golf with my father as a child growing up. It was a guaranteed individual time with my father. After his passing, I had not enjoyed the game as much and was playing less and less each year. That was until I joined the SMGA.

I am now looking forward to being able to pass on my passion for golf to my son and enjoy some quality time together on the golf course.
