June 2013 I thought I was attending as someone who had been there, done that, and now I was going to be a mentor to others. Wrong. Towards the end of our 5 day retreat at Tassajara Hot springs, I realized I was unable to look anyone in the eye. My shell was cracking, I could no longer hide the pain that was hiding just below the surface. Turns out I had a lot of unprocessed trauma. It took a few years to work it through, but that one trip changed my life path. I changed career trajectory, worked 3 years as an Army Sexual Assault Victim Advocate, and now work full-time for a law firm, helping people through some of the worst trauma of their lives. It's extremely rewarding work. I also serve as an advocate for foster children in my county. I wouldn't have gotten here if i had not dealt with my own trauma. It was through the help of my peers, the leaders guidance, and being in a totally supportive and understanding community that made it possible. Thank you so much to Veteran's PATH.
