I am an Early Intervention Teacher in a small town in Tennessee. We noticed that we were getting a lot of referrals for children who had cleft lip/palate. When Mrs. Betty, with the association of Birth Defect Children, Inc., learned about what was going on in our small town she researched and gathered information and educated us about TCE and that there may be a link to why so many children had this defect. If it wasn't for this organization and Mrs. Betty we would have never learned that TCE was seeping into well water from a local landfill. Because of Mrs. Betty these children and their families was able to have a little peace knowing they were not alone in this journey and helped them every step of the way.
