Review for Middleburg Humane Foundation, Marshall, VA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The staff are uniformly very serious about MHF's mission and deeply and sincerely love animals. They treat humans with respect as well; so many volunteers, yet everyone seems to remember my name! All kinds of animals are cared for here: chickens, pigs, horses, mules, cats, dogs, goats. The resident cats are sleek and well-fed and quite properly regard us all as Cat Slaves On Duty; the animals awaiting adoption quickly learn to be just as assertive in seeking treats and love, running to visit with visitors. On my first day as a volunteer, I drove an abandoned goat with a broken leg to the vet; on my next, I'm scheduled to take chickens to yet another vet. While helping in the office, I've overheard staff counseling concerned owners, coordinating with other local humane workers, and even doing an emergency stray cat-with-kittens trapping. With all this going on, they still manage to run a very efficient operation. An amazing bunch.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Most of my experience is with the dogs and cats, so very many of them having been treated and/or adopted out through MHF. I've taken dozens of animals to vets for the organization, both MHF adoptables and those whose owners needed MHF help to get their pets treated. On one day alone, I remember having 9 newly neutered or spayed cats in the van with me. So much suffering has been relieved, and so much joy bestowed!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

I wish MHF had a larger facility, both indoors and out. We're really running out of room to take care of all the animals that come to us.

Role:  Volunteer & Driven animals to the vet, helped with office work, bathed and walked dogs.
