Review for Project Hawai'i, Inc., Kea'au, HI, USA
I found out about Project Hawai’i, Inc. over the summer while out running errands. There was a small group of youth outside a gas station making a video. They all had the same shirts and taking all sorts of videos of different areas of the parking lot and station. I asked what they were doing in this parking lot in between the cars and customers.
The director of Project Hawai’i, Inc. stated they were selected as the gas stations charity for the 3rd quarter profits and needed to be creative with advertising. I asked who the teens were making the video. She went to explain that her non profit works with mainland visitors for volunteer projects and they are sharing their talents to make this video. The group was there to assist with the rehabbing of old homes to make transitional housing for the homeless families they provide services to.
The group seemed super exciting to be part of this program and the work they were doing to help the homeless children. After I left, I was wondering more about the program and visited their website. This organization is actually run by the woman I met at the station along with her husband and whatever volunteers they seem to be able to get. I looked further and was so amazed that these two have done so much in our community. I don't see many other agencies or companies involved and just amazed at all they do without the support it should take to get it done.
I have been following them on Facebook and then saw they were asking for people to write or share their story. I am happy to do my part and help by writing this story about my personal experience with the founder and a small team of volunteers. Their website has the information needed, and the social media is fun to see all the change they are making. Continuing to care for the children, build housing, ready for the holidays and so much all at once.
I encourage everyone to learn more about this organization when they have time. It is a great organization to be involved with.
