A few months ago I had my first experience at Feathered Friends. They do handle adoptions different than other rescues but it's because they really care about the birds. I was really uneasy about this place especially after all the negative things I'd read and heard about but seeing is believing.

I made arrangements to volunteer on a Saturday with Daniele and it was totally different than what I expected. Anytime I've volunteered at other places I end up doing the person's work but not here. Daniele worked alongside me the entire time, talking to me and making me feel like part of a family instead of free labor. She gave me tidbits of information on all the birds we were working around and asked questions I didn't really understand at the time but now do. She was learning about me so she could help me find a fid that would be comfortable with me and me with it. And that's exactly what she did and I now have a fid I absolutely adore and love so much.

I can tell you volunteering there for one day completely exhausted me but it was so worth it. These people complaining about how bad the place is really need to get off their high horse and go out and help instead of running their mouths. It's a lot of work taking care of birds and when you don't have good volunteers helping you there's no way you can do it all. You get an area clean and the birds just mess it up. It never ends.

You become part of the family at this place. When my adoption was over I didn't think I'd hear from anybody again but I was wrong. Daniele checks in on us frequently and just that little bit shows how much she cares and trust me she does.
