Review for New York Public Interest Research Group Fund Inc, New York, NY, USA
It is hard to be an organization with two distinct missions. For NYPIRG it is advocacy on behalf of the environment and the people, and also to train new leaders for communities. And NYPIRG does it so beautifully and successfully, and has done it for decades. I worked on a variety of projects along side of them over the years, am a long-time donor, and a colleague to leadership and canvassers, and in each instance, my efforts were multiplied, I learned new strategies and techniques, and was inspired by everyone I touched. The accomplishments of NYPIRG are many, and their legacy is recorded in NY State laws, policies, and regulations, and in the legions of activist citizens and professionals they have trained.

The great mix of the optimism & innovation of student organizers, and the seasoned permanent staff, is a potent mix & makes for a true learning community. They are always moving ahead, but if it takes 10 years (e.g., for the bottle bill), they are there.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Do more of the same... they are near perfect. They could do more work in Albany, expand to more campuses for organizing, give more training to more student organizers.
