Review for Miracle Messages, San Francisco, CA, USA
In a situation that seems hopeless and too big to comprehend, Miracle Messages has allowed me to take this one person in need by the hand and connect her to my heart. I have learned acceptance and compassion, the value of listening, and sometimes offering advice. But most importantly, I have the privilege of being part of this person's life - 3 years now - as she has come so far from when we first met. There have been ups and downs, for sure, but the downs are not as low now and the "ups" are more frequent. I can't help all the homeless/rehoused people in the world but I feel good we can do it one person at a time through this program.
Review for CommunityGrows, San Francisco, CA, USA
Our future lies in dirt! As an elementary school science teacher, I can attest to the value of having access to a school garden. Kids simply need to get their hands dirty - planting seeds, looking for earthworms, studying soil composition, identifying weeds, working in a garden. "Where does our food come from?" "How do plants grow?" "Is there really a tree in that seed?!" So much of the universe is revealed to kids in a garden - a garden like the one at Rosa Parks Elementary School. Anna Luberoff, CommunityGrows Garden Goddess, creates an opportunity for kids without yards to stake a claim in this garden. She has developed a relationship with the school over a number of years and established the garden as a bright spot in students' days. Using standards-based lessons that are fun and engaging, she "plants the seeds" of learning and love of a garden for Kinder - 5th Gr kids. Every public school should have such a resource. If only we had an "Anna and her garden" at MY school...
