My wife and I were visiting Kauai from SoCal, and she had heard about the island's unique Humane Society. Specifically, Kauai's Humane Society allows us to take out dogs to go on play dates. We immediately penciled that in for one of our must-do's while visiting. We were able to befriend "Dusty," one of the shelter's dogs, and took him out on an afternoon trip with us. Snacks, leash, etc were provided by the shelter. We absolutely adored Dusty and took him to the beach, a restaurant, and even a hike. We still remember Dusty very fondly to this day and hope that he found a forever home. This was an unforgettable experience that, to our knowledge, only the Kauai Humane Society provided. It was a great idea/way to improve the Humane Society's presence on the island and, more importantly in our opinion, to provide love and fun times outside of the pens for the dogs.
