I have known Theresa for many years, since she started BHFER and I would travel to the farm to volunteer or support fundraisers. In 2012 we adopted an aging Belgian Draft horse named Harley that had been mistreated by his owners not caring for his medical needs. Harley had very serious squamous cell growth in his left eye, the cluster of tumors were literally growing out of his eye. He was also very undernourished and had very bad diarrhea due to a poor diet. Theresa absolutely adored his big size and gentle disposition and quickly set about to fund raise for the necessary surgery to save his eye. He was treated at UF veterinary school of medicine and was just starting to settle in with Beauty’s herd when I decided that I needed this big gentle giant in my life. “Harvey” Harley has been an absolute joy to our life and the perfect trail horse for my husband as well as many other friends that have been fortunate to ride upon this beautiful boy. Theresa and her village of supporters helped to save this life 9 years ago and I am committed to making these the best years of this boys life. Theresa taught me to believe that I could provide for him and to do what was needed to keep him healthy and to this day he is a sweet, gentle boy who loves to interrupt my chores so that I can scratch his belly and rub his velvet soft nose.
