Review for Visiting Veterinarians International, Damascus, OR, USA
Here is a group of animal welfare professionals donating their time and personal funds to travel to remote places and help care for animals in much need of medical attention. This is pure and true altruism at its finest.
Review for Visiting Veterinarians International, Damascus, OR, USA
I started working with these folks as part of a global study to study the health effects of radiation contamination on dogs. These folks are very professional in all their activities and put the safety and welfare of their "clients" (mostly street dogs in developing countries) first and foremost. The very best medical procedures are always maintained even when local conditions make this a challenge. For example, modern gas anesthesia and proper pain meds are used in order to ensure the highest success rates and to keep animal pain and discomfort to a minimum. The medical director and her team have decades of experience from their own successful practices and they put this experience to good use for the benefit of the animals. In addition, they ensure that the highest standards are met by all their volunteers. These folks are the animal equivalent of Vets without Borders! From a nonprofit perspective, this organization is very lean with everyone volunteering their time and other resources. The team as a whole pitches in with fund raising and the medical director has been very creative in finding ways to dramatically cut costs for most of the supplies with donations from vet supply companies and even a couple government organizations.
