Review for Empowerment International, Albuquerque, NM, USA
My husband is originally from Nicaragua and we have normally spent months every winter there. I consider it my second home. We wanted to contribute where our money would make the biggest difference. I trained to be a teacher and lived in Guatemala as a child and am fluent in Spanish. I have a good understanding of the challenges these countries face. Empowerment International spends a minimum on administrative costs and the most goes directly to helping the students in the community. I believe in their priorities. I like that they hire all their staff locally and older students also volunteer their time to tutor younger students. They focus on keeping students in school. We have met all the staff and visited the centre that is open to everyone. The atmosphere is really positive and you can tell the staff believe in what they are doing. You can really see, feel and touch what your help is achieving. I am over impressed with this organization.
