Review for Empowerment International, Albuquerque, NM, USA
When we visited Nicaragua in 2015, we loved it - the history and architecture in Granada, the beaches on the Pacific, and especially the people who were very friendly. On our drives, we saw how few opportunities people in the smaller towns seemed to have. When we returned home from the trip, I started looking for an organization in Nicaragua where we might help in some small way.
A friend who directs a non-profit organization in Guatemala told me about EI. When I did some research, I liked the programs that EI had put in place for children to have a better opportunity to stay in school. Then I had the terribly difficult task of selecting a child to sponsor. I chose a young girl who was nine at the time. I have very much enjoyed our correspondence over the past six years, watching (by photos) as she has matured into a young woman and hearing her goals as she enters the “secundaria”. I am proud to be her “madrina”, as she calls me.
I am very happy to have connected with our sponsored child, now teenager, and the Empowerment International organization. Every correspondence I have had with the organization has been promptly answered. I receive regular photos and EI forwards her letters. I highly recommend Empowerment International. They are doing an awesome job to help young people in that country.
