The WPT serves all aspects of a complex ecosystem -- parrots, other fauna, flora and people. I am so impressed by their work in reaching out to many levels of involvement in various ways. During the recent hurricane in Puerto Rico, they were proactive in protecting parrots from the devastation and also in helping them recover. I admire the local involvement and I hope eventual ownership of these projects. They respect local people's culture, but try to help move things to a more equitable place.

I chose a focus on WPT for several reasons. First, they have a holistic approach to parrot conservation , including habitat and economics. Second, they work with local people, volunteer or paid, to enable them to take over responsibility for their own conservation efforts. Third, they show amazing patience, dedication and ability to find creative ways to deal with problems. The staff I've met in webinars have been totally awesome; I can't climb trees now, but they certainly can!
