DogTeam2021
Review for Paws and Think Inc, Indianapolis, IN, USA
I got involved with Paws and Think almost three years ago because I wanted to volunteer with my dog. They provide GREAT training for you and your dog to become a registered animal-assisted therapy team, and they have a great organization that helps connect you with venues all over the Indy area doing things you and your dog love best. My dog and I went on to become a R.E.A.D.-certified team to help struggling readers progress by “reading to the dog” weekly. We have volunteered at the library with readers as well, and in memory care units just providing comfort and engagement for residents. Dog/handler teams can work in crisis management, places of business doing stress breaks for employees, hospitals, child welfare, and many other speciality areas. During COVID, we have kept up our work with “through the window” visits at senior centers and dog parades, virtual reading with kids, and giving outside/masked stress breaks to our exhausted health care providers. Now we are getting back into organizations again, and the excitement with which we’re greeted is really a joy to see. Paws and Think does a great job of keeping volunteers connected, and they’re constantly educating us with new skills. It’s a terrific group doing amazing work, and I’m so proud to be a part of it.
