Review for Mercer Island Eastside Orphans & Waifs (aka MEOW Cat Rescue), Kirkland, WA, USA
I have adopted from them and been a foster (fail) many times for them. One of the “older” kitties (he was 8 years old), I pretty much adopted “sight unseen” based on how they described him in a newsletter because I had that much confidence in their assessment process. The first time I applied as a foster parent and furever adopter, I almost didn’t get approved, even as a licensed veterinary technician! But I was honest on my application in that I did declaw one of my previous babies. Once I explained why (she had a brain injury and couldn’t comprehend how to retract her claws and kept getting stuck), and after I explained I would never declaw one of my babies again, they trusted me. I was grateful that they believed me…but…more importantly that it was so important to them because, by then, I was such a strong advocate against declawing, I lost a friendship over it.
So…yeah…I think some folks find it difficult to be approved by them but I am incredibly grateful they cover all bases before they approve anyone.
