Review for Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, San Jose, CA, USA
Pictured here in before and after photos is a Mickaboo success story thanks to donations. A volunteer who searches shelter websites for companion birds in need of care, found Tui. She posted a rescue request. Tui was suffering from a life threatening parasite infestation and had beak, cere, and eye damage. I picked her up and took her to a vet who treated her. Mickaboo used donated money to get Tui healthy again. She is now out of danger, healing, and is loved and cared for by a Mickaboo foster parent.
The Mickaboo community does this hundreds of times every year thanks to donations and dedicated volunteers. They ensure the birds go to safe and loving homes. Nearly 100 percent of donations pay for life saving vet care and medications.
Review for Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, San Jose, CA, USA
I was looking to adopt a bird when I came across this oddly name group. I was first impressed with how carefully they screened me to ensure I would provide a loving and safe home. Then I learned they are amazingly run by an army of UNPAID volunteers who take birds into their homes and foster them until they find a forever home for them. The first bird I adopted, Bruce (formerly Ramsey) was so happy at his foster home, it took a while for his foster mom to get him into a transport cage. Probably what I most admire is their dedication to providing medical care to the birds they rescue who are often injured or quite ill from trying to make it out in the wild, or from neglect. Nearly every penny donated goes to those medical bills. I also appreciate their prevention work. They educate new birds owners and provide lots of helpful information on their website. It is also comforting to know that Bruce and my second budgie adopt, Vixie, will have a safe and loving place to go if something happens and I can't care for them anymore. Many companion birds have long life spans, so Mickaboo often accepts back birds that can no longer stay in their first or second (or more) forever home. All around excellent organization. I am now a volunteer.
