Angeleno
Review for Local Hope Guatemala / Xela AID Partnerships for Self Reliance, Sunset Beach, CA, USA
I am the proud possessor of a variety of woven items and beautiful earrings from the highly skilled weavers and beaders from the small town of Xela, Guatemala.
The colors, designs and artistry of each piece iare extraordinary. I have unusual water bottle holders, purses and even a stuffed frog. These are too interesting to stuff in a closet or drawer, so I display them in a handwoven basket on a shelf in my living room. They are truly works of art - not to mention practical when not on display.
I would encourage everyone to take part in Xela Aid's annual online auction. I bid on and won a Los Angeles travel brochure from the early 30s. It was probably given away by travel agencies as an incentive to visit. I think I paid $30 for it, but it truned out to be priceless. As a native Angeleno (as was my mother), I saw things that I hadn't known were that old, like my high school, and many places my mother had told me about that she visited growing up. Some are still there, some, unfortunately, are lost to history. Priceless.
