Review for Folk Routes Inc, Escondido, CA, USA
Folk Routes, Inc. a/k/a San Diego North County Bluegrass & Folk Club is one of the most welcoming music associations in Southern California. They provide live events each month, currently being held at a local pizza restaurant. They host an open jam when possible, the same evening. There is patio jamming for musicians of all skill levels.
Currently the annual membership is $25 per calendar year. That cost covers an entire family.
What a deal! They co-sponsor the long running and successful Summergrass Bluegrass Festival, held in Vista, CA in August, of each year. It is a well-attended, family friendly event.
The board of directors is enthusiastic and passionate in their endeavor to promote the genre. They are not limited to bluegrass and folk, but to other acoustic music, such as swing, gypsy jazz, country, and more. Twice yearly, NCBFC hosts a campout featuring live music, a shared meal, usually held in San Diego county. If you have not yet attended one of their live events, visit their website and contact them.

Review for California Bluegrass Association, San Francisco, CA, USA
While I don't always agree with their thinking, they are a well run non-profit with a working board that actually works. They continue to broaden their scope and make waves to the acoustic music arena. They cover bluegrass, old-timey & occasionally other forms of acoustic music, including but not limited to swing, gypsy jazz & other off-beat genres. They are particularly successful with young musicians (kids) with their camps. Many of the young players have gone on to become professional musicians and CBA continues to support them.
