I'm pretty critical of nonprofits. The amount of good a nonprofit does for local communities truly comes down to good design and follow through, and many in Nepal are not good at that.

The Global Mountain Fund, however, works on local community levels and has community engagement and involvement in its projects. The way volunteers get to work with the village at Her Farm, for example, it much more meaningful and gives the volunteer a better experience without stunting the day to day of the farm. All the women involved with the farm are incredibly compassionate and welcoming, as well as being hilarious and goofy in the best way.

I've volunteered off and on for the Mountain Fund for over seven years now, and can confidently say that they are making a true difference.
