Review for iACT, Redondo Beach, CA, USA
I work as a volunteer with several outstanding non-profits who touch the lives of immigrants and refugees, both here in America and in camps in far away places. My involvement with iACT now goes back almost four years, and I can honestly say what this organization manages to accomplish is nothing short of remarkable.
The leadership continues and guidance continues to be focused, inclusive and need and results driven. I was fortunate this spring to be part of a first-ever North American program responding to a critical situation on the US-Mexican border. iACT's much acclaimed Refugees United Soccer Academy program was implemented at the large family shelter in Reynosa, Mexico. The mothers, fathers and children "lucky" enough to live "Inside" the shelter have survived violence in their homelands and violence on their long trek to get to the border. Many of of the children have been terribly impacted by the trauma they've encountered and life, even in the shelter waiting for resettlement is difficult. iACT understands that children do best when they can be at play, socialize and learn. The RUSA format iACT designed and uses in other migrant camps was adjusted to deal with "migrants on the move" and help children in Reynosa get relief through playing soccer, learning new skills and hopefully help them begin to heal emotionally. Four Reynosa-based coaches were vetted, trained and hired to work with the children. Somedays as many as 60 kids, aged 6-13, show up to play and learn. During our training program, mothers and fathers told us they couldn't believe a program like this would ever be available to help their children. Doing good and doinjg it well matters. That's iACT.

Truly a unique approach to dealing with human rights issues and situations, putting the people being affected in control of their response and destiny. It's iAct's "mindfulness" way of operating.
