Review for Big Apple Greeter, New York, NY, USA
I have been a volunteer Greeter for over ten years, having had the pleasure of meeting people from all over the world. Many who come to New York come with expectations that have been made through movies, some good, some not so good, but they are always amazed at the real thing. We have volunteers that are familiar with each of the boroughs and speak many languages so they not only receive a free tour but in a language in which they are comfortable, and to places that interest them.
Little things like passing an animal grooming shop, or finding they can take their handicapped child in the bus, just like any other kid, because the stairs can be lowered to allow a wheelchair to enter. Since they don't have to take time learning to navigate our city, every precious minute is used to its fullest.
Because of the success of these visits, we have been able to go to other countries as well as other cities here in the US helping to form the same kind of service.
Big Apple Greeter has also partnered with Make a Wish Foundation and NYC providing Greeters to man tables at conventions and other important events.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
many ways. I escorted a lady and her ten year old daughter, from Denmark, around the city, stopping at parks for the youngster to have time to play. The mom wrote an article, with pictures of her Greeter tour. Some years later I had another lady from the same city who told me she had read a wonderful article about NY some years back and put coming to NY on her must do list.

not be able to think of any thing that they haven't already thought of.
