Review for Big Apple Greeter, New York, NY, USA
My daughter and I have made weekend trips to NYC since 1998. We love the energy and diversity in the city but we kept to the popular tourist hot spots. Then in 2003 I accidentally discovered Big Apple Greeter when researching for yet another mother-daughter trip. The first time we walked around Soho and Greenwich Village with a gentle social worker who introduced us to her pastry chef husband when we happened to pass by his restaurant. She showed us the "Friends" building and SJP's home. Our second tour with B.A.G. was with a history buff teacher who showed us NYC through a history lense. The third and last time was on a trip to NYC as my son's high school graduation treat - we were paired with a retired teacher who showed us her childhood neighbourhood - Harlem. Each time the volunteer took us on a journey through a New York corner that we would not have seen and experienced in the same intimate and meaningful way. B.A.G. is a super embassador for the city. Keep up your good work!! I'd like to keep connecting with your volunteers - maybe next time we can head to Brooklyn with my husband.....
More Feedback
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Manhattan - exploring neighourhoods with a volunteer who was matched with my requests of special sights or neighbourhoods.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
fund this organization with some Tourism promotion money - this is a wonderful way to "sell" the city to out-of-towners who will go home and rave (like I did)
