My enter action with A Touch Of Understanding is a desire come true and in so many ways! Over decades of reaching out to others who in turn help others this nonprofit does that and then some. I am very proud to say the last decade and counting has more than achieved that goal! It is a well oiled and extremely efficient organization. It addresses such issues as all inclusive for the Disabled community and non Disabled as well . It focuses on school children at a young age (usually centered around 4th graders) but also all age groups from K-12 and yes adults as well! Their process is very unique, such as hands on work shops (I prefer FUN shops) because they really are! The program uses many volunteers and a very lean Staff. They deliver more bang for the buck so to speak. They address the issue of what does a person with a Disability look like, sound like, capabilities, desires, wants, needs, bullying and believe me, so much more. They share positive steps to assist others (young and seniors alike) and every thing in between. The ATOU family (it really is a very caring and up beat environment and an honor to be a part of)! The examples of how to engage others (volunteers and class participants) is truly amazing! In all of the time I have been with them I have never heard anyone (in the organization or attendees) say “It was not engaging or thought provoking”, because it is and so much more! In today’s society up beat and good news is harder to recognize and that is where ATOU shines! Real people sharing real stores and most importantly real positive ways to enhance every ones lives with knowledge and the tools to make and have not only a better day , a better life! Like the rings that a pebble makes when dropped in water, their message goes out in all directions and touches so many others and in so many positive ways….
