Review for India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), N Bethesda, MD, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Mission: To fund the salaries of medical and support personnel at the free COVID Care Center run by the COVIDArmy4India team in collaboration with the Greater Chennai Corporation at Don Bosco school, Egmore, Chennai.
Results: When hospital beds were rare to get and Oxygen supplies were depleted across the city, the DBGCC Free COVID Care Center offered a big reprieve to the stressed hospital system in Chennai by freeing up hospital beds for critically ill patients. In June 2021, DBGCC was established with 104 beds, 90 oxygen concentrators, medicines and PPE kits provided by the Government. The facility was operational for a total of 40 days during which time a total of 172 patients were successfully treated. The average length of stay (ALOS) of the patients was 8.3 days at the facility before being discharged. In total, the COVID Centre provided 1,428 patient days of care and it is a matter of great pride that there were no fatalities. The COVID Centre was also placed under the supervision of Institute of Child Health Egmore (ICH) and Kilpauk Medical College Chennai (KMC). This ensured a care continuum, whereby patients got the best medical attention at all times and those requiring advanced medical attention could be transferred to these institutions.
The quality of care won all round praise from both the patients and the Government. The COVID Centre deployed over 70 volunteers including senior medical consultants, duty doctors, nurses, administrative support staff and management team.

The entire cost of operations was funded through the efforts of India Development and Relief Fund (IDRF), Don Bosco Egmore past pupils, friends and well wishers. IDRF was a significant contributor to this project.

With a lofty goal of $50,000 to raise, the fundraising team was in search of a reliable partner to work with. The IDRF team not only provided a great platform to raise funds and guided the team through every step of the process, but also generously offered a 50% matching contribution for every $ raised. This proved to be a significant boost to the fund raising efforts and was the sole reason behind being able to meet the critical funding requirements for dispersing salaries and paying vendors that provided critical infrastructure support in a timely manner. Without the backing from IDRF, this would not have been possible. Their support continued until the funds reached the right hands at the right time and their commitment was unparalleled. IDRF is the most trust worthy and supportive nonprofit organization to work with, hands down.
