I was so pleased to have Megan and Hayley from the National Humane Education Society visit Brunswick Elementary this summer to work with students in grades kindergarten through grade 5. Megan and Hayley did an amazing job in engaging the students with information about their work with animals and how this connects to kindness. They were both engaging and made sure all students had a chance to be heard. Their mission of kindness connects directly with our social emotional learning initiative and will be a great reminder for students as they learn skills in this area. The animal ambassador they brought with them, Andrew, was so loving and accepting of all the students whether the student was more animated or more relaxed. The ability for my students to connect with an animal in a somewhat therapeutic manner was so important especially after the isolation of the pandemic. As the school counselor at BES, I feel this program was one of the highlights of our summer experience and I am looking forward to having NHES visit again during the school year!
