What a wonderful adoption. Instead of purchasing new birds to be companions to the ones we already have, I wanted to adopt rather than buy. So many birds are dumped each year.
Many endure a tragic fate of abuse, neglect and death. So instead of going to buy our birds companions, which would have been very easy to do and fast, we decided to adopt. Give a homeless bird or two a home.

Problem was FINDING a bird rescue. Not many around, and not many close to where I live. But I got LUCKY, not too far from me was Happy Wings Sanctuary. A place for birdies with no home to go and wait to be adopted, oh and they are loved there too.

After finding them, we filled out the adoption application, had our birds seen by a vet to make sure our guys weren't ill or harboring unseen illness. After a good bill of health.
The birdies came for a house interview and STAYED. We still need to get them a few things for them to be 100% acclimated, but the whole process was easy, logical and fast.

I also became a sponsor/monthly donor to this rescue so it can keep rescuing and adopting out birds who need homes. Rescues for cats and dogs are plentiful, but our feathered friends who need homes and are often cruelly dumped and abandoned, places for them are far and few inbetween. Luckily Happy Wings Sanctuary provides a place in central/northern VA for those poor feathered souls who need a safe haven before they land in their forever homes.

I will NEVER buy a bird again. I will forever adopt, and adopt from Happy Wings, for I know the birds will be healthy, loved, socialized. The potential homes screened, questioned and thoroughly vetted so to make sure perfect matches are made.

I recommended Happy Wings on forums I comment in and will forever tell people to adopt, not shop, and direct them to Happy Wings for a feathered friend.
