What a great organization! Especially love the osprey camera and the community of viewers who comment and support one another on the site.

The Friends of Mashpee NWR not only serve an important role in preserving and enhacing habitats for wildlife within the Mashpee Refuge, they build community among the human inhabitants in and around it. By supporting Refuge partners, school, camp and scout troops, the Friends help to reinforce the idea that people play a role in the lasting success of the Refuge in the future.

One of our accomplishments this year was to build and install a new Osprey nesting platform, which quickly became home to a nesting pair. The osprey is one of the iconic wildlife species on Cape Cod, and the Mashpee Refuge is fortunate to host a number of nesting pairs which raise their young each year. The Friends group supports ongoing efforts to build and repair platforms in the area, which provide safe nesting places away from utility poles, rooftops and other hazardous locations for these majestic birds.
