One of the valuable things in this world is opportunity, because sometimes all that takes for someone to be successful is a chance to do so. Therefore, I deem this scholarship from Educational Pathways International (EPI) as a great opportunity for me to pursue my tertiary education.

My name is Kelly Carl Abakah Blankson, a second year student offering Geological Engineering at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Ghana. I am privileged and blessed to be a beneficiary of this great scholarship programme because, I believe my academic and career goals are now not far from being achieved. Previously, I had fears of not being able to complete my tertiary education which I needed to propel me to achieve my academic and career goals because I was financially handicapped but as of now, I am of a strong conviction that I will achieve my goals and I owe all this to Educational Pathways International for their tremendous support.

The prevalence of illegal mining and water pollution activities in Ghana instilled within me the passion to help fight this social problem. Therefore, I decided to pursue Geological Engineering as my undergraduate programme at the university. I want to be a Hydrogeologist and Geophysicist so I intend to acquire my Masters and Doctorate degrees in Hydrogeology and Geophysics. I believe that my knowledge in these aspects of engineering will put me in a very good position to help in solving the water pollution problem in my community and country.

The Covid-19 pandemic hampered the academic activities of the educational institutions in the country from preschool to the tertiary level. During the long break, online lectures and online examinations was the new method continuing with our education, students had to cope with the situation despite it being disturbing and hectic sometimes. Also the resumption of schools after the long break due to the Covid-19 was also a good experience as students were able to get back to the normal way of teaching and learning in-person which is also conducive for better academic works. The situation created by the Covid-19 did not derail me from focusing on my studies and goals I intend to achieve.

Finally, I would like to express my utmost appreciation to Educational Pathways International for this great opportunity for me to pursue my academic and career goals and I intend to utilize this opportunity very well to make me a skilled professional who has the development of his community and country in mind.
