Review for Reynolda House Inc, Winston Salem, NC, USA
Reynolda House has a terrific collection of American art from early portraits and Hudson River School though late 20th-century "isms". Much of the collection is comfortably displayed in the the country home of R. J. Reynolds, so it is like browsing the art in someone's living room. The newer gallery space houses changing exhibits. There is also space for educational programs and public performances. My personal favorites from the collection are John Sloan's small etchings of New York life at the turn of the century - a glimpse into the homes and lives of working-class folk by one of the keenest eyes of the era.

Train the guards to back off a little - sometimes people need to get close to a work of art to examine details.
