When I first found about about Nonhuman Rights Project, my first thought was: finally. Someone, an organization with guts and legal knowledge, has recognized that animals should have rights and wants to make it official in our legal system. To me, this is an indication that the plight of our animal friends is getting more serious recognition--and on a different front than usual. It means that now battles for animal rights can be fought and won where it most seems to matter in our country (unfortunately)--the courts. Very grateful for the tireless efforts and the resounding consciousness of this organization.
