Review for St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain, SD, USA
I have worked for a non-profit for over 25 years, and I can tell you that while the ratio for donation/direct support is a little high, it isn't very bad. There are some pretty major non-profits lately in the national eye that use less than 50% of donations for the purpose intended by the donor. St. Joseph's does a very good job and I understand the need to provide incentives for fundraising, especially as that is their only source of income. They are accredited by a reputable agency and I know the kind of scrutiny given during an audit of that kind. If they weren't using funds responsibly, if the children weren't well cared for physically, educationally, emotionally, the school would NOT be there. I have given what I can through the years and although it is a small amount I do feel good about where it is going and how it is used. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because have conflicting thoughts about white religious indoctrination being given to indigenous children. I am glad that their culture is recognized and value placed upon it....I just wish it was the main spiritual focus. Otherwise this organization gets high marks for doing good and providing for these children and their families.
Thank you so much for your comment. We are truly thankful for your support.! Though St. Joseph’s Indian School is affiliated with the Catholic Church through the Priests of the Sacred Heart, we welcome children of all faiths, recognizing the dignity of each human person created in God’s image. Students are not required to be Catholic, and we respect each child’s individual family beliefs.
